If there’s one person capable of upstaging the Dalai Lama’s arrival on Twitter, it might just be Conan O’Brien. We may not be seeing him on TV anytime soon, but now that the former ‘Tonight Show’ host has officially taken the plunge, we can at least get a glimpse of what goes on in his carrot-topped funhouse of a dome.
Last evening, an account under the name
@ConanOBrien suddenly popped up on Twitter, and immediately started drawing followers. The account’s authenticity wasn’t clear, however, until Twitter verified it about an hour after its maiden tweet. As
HuffPo reports, O’Brien christened his page
with the following tweet: “Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial. Somebody help me.” Within just a half hour of the tweet, the apparently real O’Brien had already mustered up 15,000 folllowers. By about 9:30 last night, he’d already passed 120,000 followers, and is now well over 239,000 (Jay Leno, in case you were wondering, has a relatively middling 30,000 people on
his Twitter trail). Conan’s typically self-deprecating bio currently reads: “I had a show. Then I had a different show. Now I have a Twitter account.” And, like the baller he is, O’Brien has yet to follow a single person himself (not even Jay).
