After days of hype, the big news from Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, during his keynote address this evening, was (aside from the power outage) the HP Slate, which appears to be a Windows 7-based touchscreen tablet. He debuted the prototype HP device, which still doesn’t have an official name, in a rather uneventful presentation; we got to see some games, a PC Kindle app (showing off vampire novel ‘Twilight’), and several widgets.

Otherwise, information is extremely slim. Ballmer suggested the device would be released later this year. The implementation of Windows 7 doesn’t look radically different from the usual version, so we’re wondering how attractive a device this will be. Check out Engadget for more shots from the event, and watch a teaser trailer for the device after the break. [From: Engadget]
